As part of its Pro Bono Week 2018 profile series, Washington Council of Lawyers profiled Akin Gump litigation counsel Megan Greer and labor and employment associate Amanda McGinn and the work they did for a pro bono client alongside pro bono partner Children’s Law Center.
The article focuses on McGinn’s first court appearance, as she and Greer, after months of work, looked to have a judge approve a joint custody agreement for two young children who live with their primary caregiver, their grandmother. The custody arrangement, between the children’s grandmother and their biological mother, was being challenged by their father.
The case ended successfully for the children, their mother and grandmother, with McGinn scoring her first courtroom victory. As she noted, “Through this pro bono case, we were able to work with a DC family dealing with very real-life issues. You know your work has an incredible impact not only in that moment, but in these families’ lives. It’s extremely rewarding.”
