Contact:
Akin Gump public law and policy partner Joel Jankowsky is the subject of a profile by Roll Call titled “Joel Jankowsky, longtime K Street lobbyist, exits Akin Gump” as he prepares to retire, at year’s end, from the firm, where he has served clients for 42 years.
The article traces his career from his days as a Judge Advocate General in the U.S. Army and, subsequently, as an aide to then-House Speaker Carl Albert (D-OK) to his arrival at Akin Gump, where he founded the firm’s industry-leading public law and policy practice.
Among those offering perspectives on Mr. Jankowsky’s work is Akin Gump partner Arshi Siddiqui, who joined the firm from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) office. She notes, “Joel has done such a tremendous job in cultivating the talent at Akin Gump and instilling the values of team work and bipartisanship and making sure all our bases are covered.”
On the topic of Mr. Jankowsky’s role as mentor in the lobbying industry, Mike House, former chief of staff to then-Sen. Howell Heflin (D-AL), considers Mr. Jankowsky along with Tommy Boggs and J.D. Williams the “three lions” of the industry, saying, “Not only were they the upper level strategists and good day-to-day lobbyists, but most of all they were all good mentors. Joel’s been a mentor to so many of us, including myself.”
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) added that Mr. Jankowsky’s legacy “could be felt for years after his departure from Capitol Hill.”
In the most recent of his recognitions, The National Law Journal, in October, named Mr. Jankowsky a Government Relations Trailblazer (learn more here).
