The Hill, for its article “Obama's Cuba visit attracts a crowd,” noted the participation of Akin Gump in President Obama’s historic trip to Cuba next week.
The outlet reported that Akin Gump public law and policy senior policy advisors Anya Landau French and Devry Boughner Vorwerk, both of whom are members of the firm’s Cuba policy initiative, will be in Cuba to guide clients looking for opportunities in the country.
Akin Gump public law and policy partner Scott Parven, who heads the firm’s Cuba policy initiative, said in this regard, “We view this trip in a context of a [U.S.-Cuba] partnership. Having us there on the ground being a Sherpa for these clients is adding real value to them. We cut across both the political and economic initiatives and agendas of the trip in a unique way.”
Vorwerk, who serves as chair of the U.S. Agricultural Coalition for Cuba, said that the trip, given the number of senior officials participating, may present some challenges, but noted that it is “a catalyst that outweighs the challenges. This is the launching point for a more significant commercial relationship, so being there is really important.”
Vorwerk joined Akin Gump last month (learn more here), and Landau French in September (learn more here).
