(London) – In the article “Credit funds: A taxing proposition,” written for Private Debt Investor (PDI), partners Serena Lee and Matthew Durward-Thomas discuss the ever-increasing scope of financing roles played by credit funds and the tax rules that should be borne in mind to avoid traps for the unwary. 

The team’s analysis covers withholding tax, the use of asset holding companies, the investment manager exemption and carried interest considerations. Lee and Durward-Thomas also consider the benefits of using the U.K.’s new “qualifying asset holding company,” which provides a competitive alternative to Luxembourg or Irish vehicles.
