The Hill Publishes Ross and Prober Article Predicting Increased Congressional Oversight

The Hill has published the article “Corporate America should prepare now for increased Congressional oversight,” written by Steve Ross and Rafi Prober, co-heads of Akin Gump’s congressional investigations practice. The two write that, with Democrats set to lead the House of Representatives in the new Congress, attention will turn to Congress’s “constitutional authority to conduct oversight and investigations.”
Ross and Prober advise not to dismiss Congress’s oversight authority of the business community and what that could mean for corporate America. There will likely be “an invigorated era of intense congressional investigations,” they say, that focuses primarily on “business sectors and individual companies with close ties to the Trump Administration and its policies.” All of this will be used, they add, as a way to build “an investigative mosaic in the two short years before the 2020 Presidential election.”
The article concludes by observing that some companies could end up as victims “in the middle of competing political narratives.” As a result, the authors suggest that business executives “appreciate the unique risks posed by congressional investigations and take early steps to prepare, even before Democrats pick up their gavels in January.”
