The National Law Journal has quoted Akin Gump public law and policy practice co-head G. Hunter Bates in the article “Akin Gump Lobbyists to Open Capitol Hill Space Ahead of DC Office Move.” While the article notes that Akin Gump’s D.C. office will be moving to a new location next year, it also reports on a new satellite meeting and event space on Capitol Hill that the firm will be opening for its public law and policy practice in the first quarter of 2019.
Speaking of the new space, Bates said, “In a town where there aren’t many Capitol views left, we were thrilled to find this location and are excited to open [there] in 2019.” In addition to serving as an event space, attorneys and advisors at the firm will use it as a workspace for and between meetings on Capitol Hill.
Bates said the firm began looking in earnest for space about a year ago and has already used it to host policy roundtable discussions and a welcome reception for new arrivals to the public law and policy practice in 2018. These include partners Brendan Dunn and Zachary Rudisill, former policy advisor and counsel to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and tax counsel to Senator Rob Portman, respectively, as well as senior policy advisors Christina Carrica Haley, former national Latino finance director for the Hillary for America Campaign, and Denise Desiderio, former policy director for the National Congress of American Indians.
