Marissa Román Griffith, a partner in Akin Gump’s entertainment practice, has been quoted in “Netflix Binge Buying Shifts Deal Work for Hollywood Lawyers,” an article in The Recorder addressing the impact of Netflix on the film finance market. According to the article, with Netflix signing more long-term streaming deals, there is less of a need for producers in Hollywood to pursue foreign rights presales.

The article reports that Hollywood lawyers are trying to assess the repercussions and what it means for their respective practices.

“Clearly, Netflix is good for some in the industry,” said Griffith, whose practice focuses on TV and film financing. “It’s a great thing for independent producers, who get their films seen by many more people than they otherwise might have. And the films stay around longer.”
