Communications Daily, for its article “Telecom Lobbyists See Active 2017 Role Despite Trump Rhetoric,” quoted Akin Gump telecommunications, media and technology head Tom Davidson and public law and policy senior counsel Greg Guice on prospects for changes on Capitol Hill as the new congressional session opens in a Trump administration.
They noted that they expect that the leadership of the Senate Committee on Commerce Science, and Transportation will mostly go unchanged, which will not be the case for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, in their view.
Regarding the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), they said, “[T]he FCC will see quite a change in its leadership. None of the leaders in the Trump FCC or NTIA [National Telecommunications and Information Administration] have been announced and, for the most part, are not yet known. With Republican control of the executive and legislative branch, the new administration is more likely than in recent times to collaborate and coordinate with Congress to identify which actions might be best pursued from the regulatory side and which might better fit on the legislative calendar."
