“Corporate DEI remains strong among Greater Washington Partnership companies,” an article co-written by Tony Pierce, Akin’s partner in charge of the Washington, D.C. office, and Kathy Holinger, the CEO of the Greater Washington Partnership, has been published by the Washington Business Journal.

Tony Pierce is a founding board partner for the Greater Washington Partnership (“the Partnership”), a nonprofit alliance of leading cross sector employers in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. dedicated to solutions for the region's most critical issues.

This co-authored guest column discusses the challenges faced by the business community in maintaining commitments to inclusion, equity and diversity (IE&D), particularly in light of recent legal and political pushback. Despite this, many employers, including the Partnership’s alliance of employers, understand the competitive advantage of investing in IE&D initiatives and are continuing to move the needle on inclusive economic growth.

The article shares the Partnership’s two-year milestone in its ten-year roadmap to make the Greater Washington region the nation’s “leading economic engine of inclusive growth and shared prosperity,” including a historic $4.7 billion collective shared prosperity commitment, joined by federal government officials, to support diverse business and underserved communities.

The Partnership recognizes there is still more work to be done to drive intentional, inclusive growth in the region, but they are encouraged by the progress made, highlighting the expansion of programs by numerous companies in the Partnership to support IE&D. The article concludes by  inviting leaders to join in “advancing shared prosperity to strengthen our role as a competitive economic engine that reaps benefits for all.”
