Welcome to the October Edition of the Geneva Insights Newsletter. The World Trade Organization (WTO) is hosting meetings on trade in services, including the Committee on Trade in Financial Services, the Council for Trade in Services (CTS), and the Committee on Specific Commitments. These committees oversee General
Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) implementation, address technical issues
and ensure the accuracy of members' commitments. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is convening the Working Group on the Legal Development of the Madrid System to discuss international trademark registration. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is holding its 167th session of the Working Party on Customs Questions affecting Transport to address customs and transport issues. The Organization for an International Geographical Indications Network (OriGIn) is hosting its 2024 Expert Meeting to discuss geographical indications (GIs), while the WIPO Standing Committee on the Law of Patents will focus on patent law issues. The UNCTAD Multi-year Expert Meeting on Commodities and Development will review strategies to boost domestic value in commodity production, and the 13th session of the Working Group on the Legal Development of the Hague System will address international registration of industrial designs. The UNCTAD Multi-Year Expert Meeting on Transport, Trade Logistics, and Trade Facilitation will focus on maritime transport in times of polycrisis, and the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board will discuss the implementation of the Doha Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Various other meetings and sessions will cover topics ranging from environmental sustainability and health to youth and sports, humanitarian issues, and human rights.
