(New York) – Akin represented a group led by Josh Harris in the tax aspects of the planning, negotiation and financing of their approximately $6 billion acquisition of the Washington Commanders, a professional American football team located in the Washington DC metropolitan area. The team, FedEx Field stadium and the team practice facility were acquired from the Snyder family, who have owned the NFL franchise since 1999.
The ownership consortium comprised a diverse group of individuals, including Josh Harris, David Blitzer, Mitch Rales, the renowned Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Mark Ein, Lee Ainslie, Eric Holoman, Michael Li (proprietor of Range Group), the Morgan family (owners of Morgan Properties), the Santo Domingo family, Michael Sapir (Co-founder and CEO of ProShares), Eric Schmidt (former Google CEO and Executive Chair), and Andy Snyder.
