(Washington D.C.) – Akin announced today that Abby Kohlman has joined the firm as senior counsel in the firm’s white collar defense and government investigations practice in Washington, D.C.

Kohlman rejoins Akin from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) where she most recently served as a federal prosecutor in the Fraud Section. Previously, she served as special counsel for the DOJ’s Office of Legislative Affairs.

Prior to serving in the DOJ, Kohlman was counsel at Akin where she represented corporate and individual clients in internal and government-facing investigations, including criminal, congressional and regulatory proceedings. She has experience in a variety of white collar defense matters, including allegations of fraud, insider trading and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) violations.

“At a time of continued heightened congressional oversight activity, Abby brings a wealth of experience from the DOJ in her return to private practice, not only in the Office of Legislative Affairs, but also in the Criminal Division’s FCPA unit,” said Raphael Prober, co-head of Akin’s congressional investigations practice. “We are thrilled to welcome her back to Akin.”

“I’m excited to be returning to Akin and its premier congressional investigations, white collar defense and government investigations practices,” said Kohlman on her return to the firm. “I look forward to working with new and old colleagues in advising clients navigate complex congressional and government investigations.”
