Akin Gump Advises CNX Resources in a Transaction with Pittsburgh International Airport to Reduce Emissions and Costs for Transportation and Other Industries

(Houston) – Akin Gump served as counsel to CNX Resources in its transformational fuel strategy agreement, announced May 24, 2022, with the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT).
CNX has developed proprietary technology to cost-effectively convert onsite dry natural gas into liquefied natural gas (LNG), compressed natural gas (CNG) and electricity for various uses, including as a hydrogen feedstock. These technologies will reduce local emissions and further reduce PIT’s operating costs.
The agreement also envisions a sustainable fuel hub at PIT that utilizes locally sourced, lower-cost, lower-carbon intensity LNG and CNG fueling depots for airlines, transit, cargo, fleet, military and other energy-intensive business purposes.
As part of the agreement, CNX will develop the Utica shale on PIT property representing the first wells from this formation completed and brought into production in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The Utica shale yields a dry gas which is more easily converted into LNG and CNG alternative fuels and hydrogen.
