Akin Gump Celebrates 75th Anniversary

(New York) – Today, Akin Gump is proud to celebrate 75 years of commitment to our clients, our communities and one another, as the firm commemorates its diamond anniversary.
On this date 75 years ago, former F.B.I. agents Robert S. Strauss and Richard A. Gump launched their own firm, Gump & Strauss, in Dallas, Texas. From those modest beginnings, the firm grew to become what it is today: a leading global law firm with more than 900 lawyers in 20 offices across three continents, boasting numerous market-leading practices and with a renowned dedication to serving its clients and communities.
The theme for Akin Gump’s 75th anniversary year has been “A Year of Giving Back,” a theme that took on even greater resonance against the backdrop of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the year, the firm rolled out several initiatives that encourage employees to give back to their communities. This includes providing everyone in the firm with $75 to donate to the charity of their choice through the firm’s donation platform, Benevity. The firm also launched its “75 Acts of Kindness” initiative, encouraging firm employees to engage in 75 acts of giving back in their communities throughout the year.
Commenting on the anniversary, firm chairperson Kim Koopersmith said, “No firm reaches a 75-year milestone without earning and keeping the trust of the clients it serves and the people it employs. I am beyond grateful to our clients, who, for years, have entrusted us with their highest-value work, and to our lawyers and Business Services staff, who have dedicated themselves in service to our clients and to our firm.”

While much has changed about our firm and the practice of law since Bob and Dick founded Akin Gump 75 years ago, there is a lot that remains the same.
