(Los Angeles) – Akin Gump is pleased to share that Variety has again recognized the work of Akin Gump’s entertainment practice in its Dealmakers Impact Report.
Practice head Chris Spicer and partners Marissa Román Griffith, Alissa Miller and Vanessa Roman were featured among the “players [who] know how to fight for their clients and their companies – and generate growth against the odds.”
In its profile of the four honorees, Variety noted that they handled $3.5 billion in transactions for lenders, investors and producers across media over the past year, including HPS Investment Partners on a multi-tranche $550 million credit facility to Kobalt Music Group; Media Rights Capital for production, such as Apple TV+’s Shining Girls, and refinancing a revolving loan; and MUFG bank for a $100 million revolving credit facility to indie financier TPC and a revolving credit facility for 2.0 Entertainment affiliate. The profile also notes work with clients Bank of America, Comerica Bank, East West Bank and Bank of Montreal on a range of credit facilities, production loans, and other financings.
Alissa Miller, who also serves as Los Angeles office partner in charge, is quoted as saying that, after a period in which video streaming and theatre films seemed to be pitted against each other, “[V]arious stakeholders are trying to figure out if they’re going to have a symbiotic relationship, which is happening. Hopefully, this is the dawn of a new era of streaming and theatrical cooperation.”
