(Washington, D.C.) – A number of media outlets covered the recent Akin Gump and CompTIA co-hosted event, “EU General Data Protection Regulation,” held on April 4 at Akin Gump’s Washington, D.C. offices.
Akin Gump cybersecurity initiative co-head David Turetsky served as moderator for the panel, which also featured cybersecurity, privacy and data protection partner Davina Garrod as well as privacy professionals from TD Bank Group, Facebook and Raytheon.
The keynote speakers were Deputy Assistant Secretary Ted Dean (International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce) and Information Commissioner Christopher Graham (U.K. Information Commissioner's Office).
Law360, in its article “EU 'Privacy Shield' Will Endure After Obama, Official Says,” quoted DAS Dean, among others, in its coverage, its headline referring to his quote: “Programmatically, we’ve got a team in my office that is working on this, so any future administration would have to affirmatively look at are we going to continue these commitments, are we going to discontinue this program. I think we’re setting it up in a way as a program where [abandoning the commitments] is very unlikely.”
DAS Dean’s remarks were also quoted by Washington Internet Daily (“US Team Working To Address Privacy Shield Questions Before Votes”) and Inside Cybersecurity (“Commerce official argues 'durability' of new EU data protection, privacy rules”).
