(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump is pleased to report that its pro bono work with Lawyers Without Borders earned a “Highly Commended” ranking in the “Rule of Law and Access to Justice” category in the 2017 edition of Financial Times’ FT Innovative Lawyers Report for North America.
In 2016, in response to a need by global nonprofit Lawyers Without Borders (LWOB) for ways to enhance its monitoring and evaluation program for its Support Through Trial Advocacy Training (STTAT) program, Akin Gump developed tools—first in PDF format, then online—to record session-by-session evaluations by both observers and participants.
The STTAT programs focus on training of judges and other law enforcement officials. The new tools allow LWOB to collect new types of information on participants’ understand both of the relevant laws and the skills they are building and of ways in which LWOB can improve the delivery of its training and other efforts.
The Akin Gump effort was led by international trade counsel Kimberly Myers in collaboration with litigation associate Melissa Chastang.
The report was released at an evening event at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building of The New York Public Library on December 11.
Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
