(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce the launch of FundSpeak, a monthly speaker series that will critically examine legislative, regulatory and enforcement priorities under the Biden administration and Congress, with a particular focus on impacts on the investment funds space.

The programs will feature an interdisciplinary team of lawyers and advisors from Akin Gump’s government-facing practices sharing insights on administration and congressional priorities across a number of areas, ranging from labor and workforce issues, to regulation and oversight of Big Tech, climate change, ESG and more. Panelists will include many from Akin Gump’s market-leading policy, regulatory and enforcement practices who formerly served in government roles or held elected office.

“What happens in the new Washington will shape the environment for funds and their portfolio companies in 2021 and the years to come,” said Prakash Mehta, co-head of Akin Gump’s investment management practice. “And with a new administration and Congress, there is naturally a need to understand where and how resources will be focused. So, with this series we’ve set out to inform and educate those stakeholders throughout the funds space on what those priorities are likely to be, the impacts they will have, and what needs to be done to prepare for them.”

The series launches in March with a program titled “A Pro-Union President: What Investment Funds and Portfolio Companies Should Anticipate with Workforce Issues Under the Biden Administration.” The program, which will be moderated by Mr. Mehta, will feature Akin Gump labor and employment partners Lauren Leyden and Dan Nash, senior counsel Eric Field, and  public law and policy partner Arshi Siddiqui, former senior advisor and counsel to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Future events will be focused on government enforcement priorities, Big Tech, climate change and ESG, telecommunications, infrastructure, the future of entertainment, energy and more.
