“I am thrilled to see Alison and Alissa take on these roles,” said Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “They are both outstanding practitioners and outstanding partners who have been integral to the success of their offices. Both have also been strong contributors to our firm’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. With leadership as one of our core pillars of our DEI strategy, I’m gratified to have two fantastic women assume important leadership roles in the firm. Ms. Chen, who joined the firm in 2015, is a Chambers-ranked, leading tax lawyer in the energy space, providing business-critical advice to clients on the tax aspects of their energy deals, including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and other partnership arrangements; recapitalizations; restructuring; and other financing transactions. Ms. Chen also serves on the firm’s partnership admissions committee and firmwide DEI council; and chairs the Houston office women’s professional development initiatives.
In Los Angeles, Ms. Miller has been recognized by the top industry publications, including Chambers USA, Los Angeles Times and Variety, as a leader in the entertainment finance industry and a top-shelf Hollywood dealmaker, having helmed some of the most sophisticated deals between independent movie production companies and financial institutions. Further, since the onset of the pandemic, Ms. Miller has been a steadfast and successful advocate for the entertainment industry, having co-led Akin Gump’s cross-practice efforts to assist the American Coalition for Independent Content Production, a coalition of more than two dozen independent production companies seeking COVID-19 relief aid (learn more here).
