(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump has taken the number two spot in the “largest companies” category of The Washington Post’s annual Top Workplaces survey, a list of the capital area’s best places to work based on rankings by its employees. Akin Gump was the only law firm recognized this year among the region’s 15 largest companies, which are those with 999 employees or more.
The Post notes that, in addition to providing legal services, employees at Akin Gump “give back to the community by tutoring students, donating clothing, raising money for charity and much more.”
The firm scored its top ranking through an anonymous survey administered by Energage and completed by firm employees that evaluated Akin Gump’s Washington office along 24 factors covering seven areas:
Alignment — where the company is headed, its values, cooperation
Effectiveness — doing things well, sharing different viewpoints, encouraging new ideas
Connection — employees feel appreciated, their work is meaningful
My manager — cares about concerns, helps me learn and grow
Employee engagement — motivation, retention and referral
Leader — confidence in company leadership
The basics — pay, benefits, flexibility, training, expectations.
Akin Gump Washington, D.C. office partner in charge Anthony Pierce commented, “We are thrilled to be named to the number two spot among the region’s best places to work. While we are always seeking ways that we can improve, these results show that our efforts to ensure that our employees feel engaged, connected and satisfied are resonating.”
