(Washington, D.C.) – A team from Akin Gump received a “shout out” from The American Lawyer in its Litigator of the Week series for securing a pivotal ruling for the National Football League, dismissing all claims and ending a long-running case against the NFL.
According to Am Law, the case, which began in 2014, was brought by former players who “claimed the league was negligent in how it allowed teams to distribute painkillers and other prescription drugs to keep players on the field.” However, the court found that the plaintiffs’ “claims were either time-barred or failed for lack of proof the drugs actually caused their alleged injuries.”
The Akin Gump team representing the NFL was led by labor and employment partner Dan Nash. He was joined by fellow labor and employment partners Stacey Eisenstein, Gregory Knopp and Nathan Oleson, counsel Elizabeth England, Jonathan Slowik and Amanda McGinn and associates Andrew Gear and Kate Heise; Supreme Court and appellate practice head Pratik Shah and partner James Tysse.
