Akin Hires Brian Sakala as Chief Financial Officer

(Washington, D.C.) – Akin is pleased to announce that Brian Sakala has joined the firm as its chief financial officer (CFO) and will be based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Sakala assumes the CFO position for the firm and its 17 global offices, which recorded record financial results in 2023, including revenue of $1.369 billion, which rose by more than 11 percent year-over-year.
With two decades of experience in accounting and finance, Sakala joins Akin from Paul Hastings, where he served as managing director, head of finance since 2023. He previously served as director of global accounting and finance at Cooley for 12 years, where he was responsible for the global operational and reporting activities in the accounting department. At both Paul Hastings and Cooley, Sakala led the strategic and operational finance functions on a global basis.

In addition to the firm’s record financial results in 2023, Akin was recently ranked 8thon The American Lawyer’s 2024 A-List, which highlights firms excelling financially in revenue per lawyer, and in pro bono, diversity and associate satisfaction.

Sakala holds a B.S. from Frostburg State University and an MBA from George Washington University.
