(New York) – Akin is pleased to announce that Bill Brady has joined the firm’s special situations & private credit practice as a partner in New York, adding globally recognized experience advising private credit lenders deploying capital in today’s fast-evolving financial markets. He joins from Paul Hastings, where he was head of the alternative lender and private credit group.

Akin’s market-leading credit practice has long been recognized for its experience advising asset managers on their most cutting-edge credit-oriented transactions, including private credit transactions, special situation financings, out of court rescue financings, liability management transactions and restructuring financings. Brady adds elite depth to the performing side of the private credit spectrum, reinforcing the firm’s position as a global ‘one-stop shop’ advising leading alternative asset managers across, finance, M&A, restructuring and funds matters.

“With continued growth in the private credit markets, demand remains high for creative lawyers who can advise clients on transactions across the credit spectrum,” said Akin chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “Bill is a tremendous addition to our thriving practice and I’m thrilled to welcome him to the firm.”

“Bill is an exceptionally talented dealmaker with impressive experience advising a wide range of alternative asset managers on cutting edge transactions,” said Ranesh Ramanathan, co-leader of Akin’s special situations and private credit practice.

“Adding Bill to our team further positions Akin as a clear market leader in advising sophisticated alternative asset managers deploying capital with cross-disciplinary teams from special situations & private credit, financial restructuring, fund formation, tax, funds litigation, shareholder activism and regulatory compliance,” said Dan Fisher, co-leader of Akin’s special situations and private credit practice.

“Akin has a clear strategy and global platform that is incredibly synergistic to my private credit practice and positions me to serve clients in the credit and alternative asset managers space with top-tier practices across a range of legal needs,” said Brady. “I’m excited to join this thriving team.”

Brady’s practice focuses advising a broad array of direct lenders and private credit firms on complex finance transactions and credit arrangements, including financings that include multiple tranches of debt. He regularly structures and negotiates a wide range of financing facilities, such as mezzanine debt, second-lien loans, unitranche facilities, first-out/last-out and term "B" facilities, and holdco note purchases.

Brady is the latest high-profile addition to Akin’s premier special situations & private credit practice, including Ranesh Ramanathan in New York/Boston (October 2022), Catherine Goodall in New York (February 2023), Josh Peary in Boston (March 2023), Corinne Musa in New York (May 2023) and Tarun Warriar in Hong Kong (May 2023).
