(Irvine) – Akin is pleased to announce that April Kim has joined the firm as a projects & energy transition partner in Southern California. She joins from Greenberg Traurig where she was a shareholder.
April’s practice is focused on the energy sector, advising investors, sponsors, developers, and other renewable energy stakeholders in tax equity and tax credit transactions, mergers and acquisitions, project development and debt financings.
“Our projects & energy transition practice continues to see increasing client demand driven by investment opportunities in renewable and new energy projects and the need for legal advisors that can help clients structure complex investments,” said Akin chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “April brings a valuable skillset that is in high demand, and we’re pleased to welcome her to the firm.”
“The Inflation Reduction Act and the increased efforts towards an “all of the above” approach to the energy transition continues to spur significant capital deployment opportunities in renewable and new energy investments, as well as increased activity in tax credit transfer and tax equity financing transactions,” added corporate practice co-head Zachary Wittenberg. “April is a sophisticated dealmaker with a strong pulse on the evolving market for tax credits and its application for investors. She adds depth to our projects and energy transition practice and will be a terrific resource for our private capital clients investing in cutting-edge renewable energy projects and energy transition technologies.”
April is the latest addition to the firm’s comprehensive energy and infrastructure platform, with Akin having added energy transactions partners Trent Bridges and Ian Goldberg and private equity partner Andrew Lehman in Houston and Rob Butler in London; projects & energy transition partners Ike Emehelu (New York), Alex Harrison, Matt Hardwick and Dan Giemajner (London) and Vanessa Richelle Wilson (Washington, D.C.) and energy regulatory partners Emily Mallen and Stephen Hug (Washington, D.C.).
“Akin has a premier projects & energy transition practice, and its integrated energy and infrastructure platform is perfect for my clients and continuing to expand my practice,” said April Kim on her move. “I look forward to joining this growing and dynamic team in meeting the continued demand for transactions in the energy sector.”
