(Dallas and New York) – Akin announced today that Chad Nichols has rejoined the firm as a finance partner in its global market-leading special situations practice. At a time of continued growth in the market, Nichols brings deep experience acting for credit funds on many of the most prominent liability management and other special situations transactions as well as bespoke private credit and direct lending matters.

Nichols represents asset managers and their portfolio companies in sophisticated credit-oriented transactions. His practice focuses on special situations financings, liability management transactions, capital structure analysis and complex private credit transactions. He has extensive experience with restructuring-related financings, including debtor-in-possession, rescue and exit financings.

“Akin operates at the top of the market for liability management and other special situations transactions, an area that has grown exponentially,” said Akin co-chair elect Abid Qureshi. “Chad adds depth to the team and will be a benefit to asset managers in need of the most skilled practitioners to handle their most complex matters. We are delighted to welcome him back to the firm.”

Special Situations practice co-head Dan Fisher and finance practice head Jaisohn Im added, “Chad is a very talented finance lawyer, with a deep understanding of the distressed investing market, advising clients in their investments through their lifetime cycle and across the private capital spectrum. Our special situations practice is busier than ever, and we are thrilled Chad is returning to the team.”

“I am delighted to return to Akin and its premier special situations practice,” said Nichols on his return to the firm. “The firm’s culture, intensity and client focus are second to none and I look forward to working with new and old colleagues to advise our clients across special situations and finance,” he added.

Nichols rejoins the firm from Gibson Dunn, where he was a partner.
