(New York) – Akin is pleased to announce that financial restructuring partner Avi Luft has joined the firm’s New York office.
Luft represents debtors, creditors, official committees and ad hoc groups in chapter 11 and cross-border insolvency proceedings, with a particular focus on contested issues in restructuring, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights litigation. He serves as trial counsel in bankruptcy and district courts throughout the country, with a particular expertise on issues of valuation, acquisitions, economics, and damages, and commonly advises clients on the litigation implications of restructuring decisions and corporate transactions.
“Avi is a skilled litigator who can handle the most complex financial restructuring litigations,” said Akin chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “Avi is a terrific addition to our elite financial restructuring and restructuring litigation practices and I’m delighted to welcome him to the firm.”
“We continue to see an increasing number of restructurings with the need for experienced litigators and are fortunate to attract the very best talent in every aspect of financial restructuring,” said Ira Dizengoff, leader of Akin’s financial restructuring practice. “Our team has known Avi for more than a decade having seen him in action in all phases of contested matters in and out of court. We are confident he will be a perfect fit for the practice.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining Akin’s powerhouse financial restructuring team, which will be the perfect platform for my financial restructuring litigation practice,” said Luft on his move.
Luft joined from Paul Hastings and is the latest addition to the firm’s elite financial restructuring practice. Earlier this year, the firm added Jacqueline Ingram in London.
