Ashley Vinson Named Among Law360’s Top Young Insurance Lawyers for 2015

(San Francisco) – Akin Gump litigation partner Ashley Vinson has been named among the top young insurance lawyers by Law360 in its annual “Rising Stars” list.
In Law360’s profile of her, Ms. Vinson discusses how she provides value to her clients in the form of “effective project management, innovative discovery methods and wringing out cost efficiencies from sprawling, complex litigations.” She credits this perspective to her stint as in-house counsel for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co., where she gained critical insight into “how the private sector, particularly insurers, approaches legal projects and what sorts of service it values most.”
Among the engagements spotlighted is Ms. Vinson’s representation on behalf of Fireman’s Fund in a six-month bench trial before the California Superior Court in which she obtained a complete victory in favor of the company on fraud, breach of contract and indemnification claims against two subsidiaries of Voya Financial, Inc. Fireman’s Fund was able to recoup the costs of its $7.5 million settlement, $1.4 million in prejudgment interest and $36.8 million in damages.
The case was part of a long-running litigation brought by Fireman’s Fund employees and became the second-longest civil trial in Marin County’s history. Ms. Vinson added, “We were able to get a really favorable settlement and turn what was sort of a wart for the company into a really positive thing for them. And it was a great experience to have six months in trial.”
