Contact:
(New York) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce that, in its annual survey of U.S. law firms, Chambers Associate ranked Akin Gump among the top 10 U.S. firms for “most satisfied associates.”
To compile its ranking, Chambers sent an online survey to first-, second- and third-year associates, asking them to rate their firm on various aspects of firm life, including how happy they were, how much their work motivates them, and the firm's value to them in their career.
Among the quotes from Akin Gump associates:
- “As a first-year I was in client meetings, as a second-year I was in court, and now I’m third-year I’m writing briefs that are filed directly with the court.”
- “It stands out to me that our chairperson is a woman – that’s pretty rare for a top firm.”
- “It’s cool the firm has [a career development counselor] whose number one priority is [us].”
Akin Gump was also ranked among the top 10 U.S. firms for pro bono, where the average number of pro bono hours per U.S. attorney was 116. Firmwide, Akin Gump lawyers contributed over 100,000 pro bono hours throughout 2018.
Immigration work is described as common, including handling requests for reconsideration of credible fear decisions. In Washington, D.C., landlord/tenant work is a significant source of pro bono work, with one associate saying, “I had to run to court at the 11th hour because my client was about to be evicted – it was like a movie! I argued before the court and she was able to keep her house.” In New York, associates have done externships at Her Justice, representing women in cases related to divorce and childcare.
In 2018, Akin Gump also scored top 10 rankings in two associate surveys conducted by The American Lawyer: its Midlevel Associates Survey (learn more here) and its Summer Associates Survey (learn more here).
