WASHINGTON, D.C. - Akin announced today that Joe Donnelly, former U.S. Congressman and Senator from Indiana, and former U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See, has rejoined the firm as a senior consultant in Washington, D.C., where he will register to lobby for Akin clients. Over more than a decade in Congress, Donnelly developed strong bipartisan relationships that will allow him to help clients across a range of industries advance their goals in Congress.
In the Senate, Donnelly held positions on the Banking, Agriculture and Armed Services Committees. He joins Akin’s already strong roster of former members of Congress, including former Ways and Means Committee Chair Kevin Brady, former House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and former chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Ethics Committee, and Science, Space and Technology Committee Lamar Smith.
“Joe is well-liked throughout the halls of Congress on both sides of the aisle. He is going to be an invaluable advocate for our clients in the Senate and the House,” said Brian Pomper, co-head of Akin’s lobbying & public policy practice. “We are delighted to welcome him back home.”
“Joe’s return to the firm brings unmatched value to our clients,” said Hunter Bates, co-head of Akin’s lobbying & public policy practice. “His strong reputation as a moderate Democrat, his experience working with businesses, and his insights into foreign governments developed during his ambassadorship will strengthen our offerings to both our policy and regulatory clients.”
Prior to his ambassadorship, Donnelly was a partner at Akin from 2019-2022. “I look forward to re-joining the firm during this pivotal moment, as a new administration and Congress take shape,” said Donnelly. “As our clients set their course for the term ahead, they are looking for best-in-class guidance and lobbying on a range of issues, and I know from experience that Akin has the team to deliver.”
