Former Department of Commerce Official Joshua Teitelbaum Joins Akin Gump

(Washington, D.C.) – Joshua Teitelbaum, who most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Textiles, Consumer Goods and Materials with the International Trade Administration in the U.S. Department of Commerce, has joined Akin Gump as counsel in its public law and policy practice in Washington, D.C.
While serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary, Mr. Teitelbaum was a policy-maker for, and public advocate of, the Obama administration’s highest international trade priorities. His work included substantial contributions to the development of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the Commerce Department’s implementation of the conflict minerals provisions of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, among other initiatives. His work spanned a broad cross-section of U.S. industries, including textiles, apparel, home furnishings, processed foods, distilled spirits, recreational transportation, cosmetics, chemicals and building materials.
Prior to serving in that role, Mr. Teitelbaum served as staff director for the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Subcommittee on Children & Families, as legislative assistant to Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) (now a senior policy consultant with Akin Gump) and as legislative counsel to Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY).

Mr. Teitelbaum received his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in 2008, and his B.S. from Cornell University in 2005.
