Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Honored by Colombia in Bicentennial Celebration

(Washington, D.C.) – At a ceremony today at the Embassy of Colombia, Akin Gump senior advisor and former Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen was among U.S. officials honored as part of the bicentennial celebration of Colombia-U.S. diplomatic relations.
Alongside former U.S. Representatives, a State Department Deputy and an Undersecretary, NGO leaders and academics, Ms. Ros-Lehtinen was presented by Colombian President Iván Duque with the degree of Comendador. Former U.S. Cabinet Secretaries, Senators and U.S. Ambassadors were recognized with the degree of Gran Cruz.
Said Colombian Ambassador Juan Carlos Pinzón, “It is a distinct privilege to join President Duque in conferring our country’s highest honors on these remarkable individuals who have contributed so much to the Colombia-U.S. relationship. They are who make this bilateral relationship a special one, and I am honored and humbled to share the stage with them today.”
