Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Ranked Among “Women of the Century” for Politics by USA Today

(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump senior advisor Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a former member of Congress who served in the U.S. House of Representatives for three decades, was selected by USA Today for its list of the Women of the Century. Ms. Ros-Lehtinen was recognized in the category of politics.
Women of the Century USA Today 100 gathers “100 women who have significantly impacted their communities and country, and have a documented record of success” in fields such as politics; sports; entertainment; science, medicine and education; and civil rights.
Ms. Ros-Lehtinen’s profile notes that she was the first Latina ever elected to Congress and lists among her accomplishments in the House her place as the first congressional Republican to publicly support passage of the Marriage Equality Act and as one of the lead sponsors of the Violence Against Women Act.
Further, the profile notes that she, a “lifelong champion for education” and former teacher and principal “fought to expand federal financial aid and advocated for veterans returning from duty to have access to college.”
