(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce that senior policy counsel Karen Goldmeier Green has been named a finalist in Professional Women in Advocacy’s 2014 Excellence in Advocacy Awards in the category of “Excellence in a Federal Issue Campaign.”
The category seeks to recognize “advocate(s) [who] successfully impacted the outcome of a federal legislative or regulatory problem or opportunity on behalf of their cause, issue, client, organization or coalition.” In Goldmeier Green’s case, the organization is recognizing her advocacy campaign on behalf of the Puerto Rico Equality Forum to gain federal recognition of the island’s vote to end its status as a U.S. territory and become a state.
The winners in this and the other award categories will be announced at an event on Thursday, November 20, 2014, in Washington, D.C.
This is the second year the awards have been in existence. In their inaugural outing, Akin Gump public law and policy partner Martha “Martie” Kendrick, who was then a partner at another firm, received an Excellence in Advocacy award in the Veteran Lobbyist category in recognition of her impact on health legislation.
Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
