(Los Angeles) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce that Los Angeles partner in charge Gregory Knopp and litigation partner Neal Marder have been recognized as Top Litigators by Los Angeles Business Journal as part of that publication’s Leaders of Influence: Litigators & Trial Lawyers feature, which spotlights “the region’s most outstanding litigators.”

In its profile of Mr. Knopp, LABJ characterized him as “among the upper echelon of labor and employment practitioners nationwide” and a “pioneer in Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) law.” It notes that he is L.A. partner in charge for Akin Gump, leads that office’s labor and employment work, and also sits on the firm’s management committee. The profile discusses his more than 20 years’ experience working in L&E litigation in California, which LABJ calls a “plaintiff-friendly state with some of the most stringent labor regulations in the country,” and points to Mr. Knopp regularly leading some of the U.S.’s most closely watched employment disputes involving class action and PAGA claims for “industry giants…the outcomes of which hold important implications for future case law not only in California but nationwide.”

In its profile of Mr. Marder, who heads Akin Gump’s consumer class actions team, LABJ calls him “a highly accomplished trial lawyer and one of the leading class action litigators in the country,” a lawyer who obtains favorable verdicts, decisions and settlements for clients across industries and borders. The profile notes that he is a “recognized trailblazer” in complex litigation, with more than 33 years of practice, who has had “tremendous success trying bet-the-company cases” and winning for both plaintiffs and defendants. As an example, the publication notes Mr. Marder’s leadership in a high-stakes consumer class action matter in which he negotiated a “highly favorable settlement for the client” that mitigated “enormous potential exposure” and cleared the way for a sale of the company.
