(Los Angeles) – Akin Gump is pleased to share that entertainment practice partners Marissa Román Griffith and Alissa Miller have been named Banking and Finance Visionaries by the Los Angeles Times.

As the Times notes, “Each of these senior-level executives had demonstrated successes and accomplishments during the last 24 months as well as leadership in their organizations, while impacting change within their communities.”

In her profile, Ms. Román Griffith is noted as “among the very few senior Latina attorneys in private practice specializing in media and entertainment transactions,” as she “regularly handles multimillion-dollar deals for financiers, borrowers, distributors and others involved in various aspects of the production, financing and distribution of film, television and digital content, including credit facilities, domestic and international co-financing agreements and slate transactions.”

Her service on the firm’s L.A. office hiring committee and, for more than 15 years, as a senior mentor for the office’s summer associates is noted, along with her role as co-chair of the office diversity committee and member of the firmwide diversity committee. Ms. Román Griffith is noted as having founded the firm’s women executives in entertainment network initiative, launched in 2017.

In her profile, Ms. Miller is noted as being widely recognized as a leader in her field for “handling some of the industry’s highest-visibility deals between independent movie production companies and financial institutions, and for her innovative media and entertainment-focused pro bono practice.”

Her work tackling the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on her industry is spotlighted, including her role as co-leader of Akin Gump’s “cross-practice effort to assist a coalition of more than two dozen independent production companies in their pursuit for COVID-19 relief aid.” Additionally, her representation of major financial institutions in several “blockbuster deals” is noted, including for MUFG Union Bank, N.A. in an ongoing revolving credit facility for NEON Rated, LLC for films such as Parasite, Titane, Gunda and Pig.
