Leading International Trade Partner Naboth van den Broek joins Akin Gump

Appointment further strengthens the firm’s depth in international dispute settlement, policy and regulatory matters
(London and Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump today announced that Naboth van den Broek has joined the firm as a partner in its international trade practice. He joins from WilmerHale, where he was co-chair of its International Group. Mr. van den Broek will work out of the firm’s London, Washington, D.C., and Geneva offices.
Mr. van den Broek is a highly regarded, Chambers-ranked international trade lawyer with more than 20 years of experience advising companies and governments on international dispute settlement, policy and regulatory issues.
Mr. van den Broek has deep experience in complex, treaty-based international dispute settlement and arbitration matters under World Trade Organization (WTO) and International Centre for Settlement of Investor Disputes (ICSID) rules, as well as in EU, U.K., and U.S. tribunals. He also focuses on international trade, investment and geopolitical issues; free trade agreement and other treaty negotiations; and international compliance and investigations matters.
The arrival of Mr. van den Broek marks another significant step in the expansion of Akin Gump’s global international trade practice, which now has more than 70 professionals based in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

About Naboth van den Broek
Mr. van den Broek has over twenty years of experience advising companies and governments at the intersection of international law, policy, government and strategy. In addition to his law practice, Mr. van den Broek is adjunct professor of International Trade and Investment Law at Georgetown University Law Center in the United States, a senior distinguished fellow at the Institute of International Economic Law (IIEL) and a member of the IIEL’s Advisory Board.
Mr. van den Broek studied law at Leiden University in the Netherlands and Georgetown University Law Center in Washington. D.C., as well as international politics at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris. He is admitted to the Amsterdam (Netherlands), Brussels (EU List) and Washington, D.C. (Special Legal Consultant) bars and is a registered foreign lawyer in England and Wales. He speaks Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish.
