(Dallas) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce that financial restructuring partner Sarah Schultz and corporate partner Thomas Yang have been recognized in The American Lawyer’s inaugural series of Trailblazers: South.
According to Am Law, these Trailblazers are those who have “moved the needle in the legal industry and are agents of change” in the region, having left their mark on practice, policy and technological advancements in their sector.
In her recognition profile, Ms. Schultz notes that while she and her team were the “first to challenge the oil and gas industry’s notion that purported covenants running with the land protected contracts from the rejection powers of the bankruptcy code,” this concept has become a growing trend over the past five years. Looking to the future, Ms. Schultz anticipates more “investors insisting on protections that ensure they receive the benefit of their bargain.”
Mr. Yang’s profile, meanwhile, highlights the robust number of deals on which he has led—topping over $40 billion cumulatively in recent years—including 7-Eleven’s blockbuster $21 billion acquisition of 3,900 stores from Speedway. Now, he notes, is “the time to give back and champion future generations to exceed their predecessors.”
