Turnarounds & Workouts Names Sara Brauner Among 'Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers'

(New York) – Akin Gump is pleased to share that financial restructuring partner Sara Brauner has been named by Turnarounds & Workouts to its 2022 list of Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers.
In its profile of Ms. Brauner, T&W noted that she played a pivotal role in the headline-making opioid cases of Purdue Pharma and Mallinckrodt plc.
In the former, she served as counsel to the unsecured creditors’ committee and helped to maximize the Sackler family contribution to a largely consensual plan of reorganization—which won the support of 95%+ of creditors—and to resolve allocation issues, both of which served the goals of compensating victims and abating the opioid crisis.
In the latter, she represented the Opioid Related Claimants Committee in Mallinckrodt. Her representation included the panel’s investigation of a prepetition agreement entered into by the company and certain creditors, as well as her negotiation of a significantly improved consensual resolution with the debtor and numerous other stakeholders in order to ensure value is preserved for opioid claimants.
Her work with the unsecured creditors committee of Sears Holdings is also noted, after which she transitioned to serving as litigation counsel in order to pursue a 35-count complaint against ESL Investments and others, a case that remains pending.
