(Los Angeles) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce that five partners in its entertainment practice—practice head Christopher Spicer and P. John Burke, Marissa Román Griffith, Alissa Miller and Vanessa Roman—have been recognized in Variety’s annual Legal Impact Report of the “legal eagles [who] made massive deals and litigated thorny disputes for entertainment industry clients, studios and networks.”
This is only the latest appearance by these five lawyers on the publication’s prestigious list, as some or all of them have been recognized in the Report each year going back to 2013.
The team’s profile published in conjunction with this recognition notes that their lender clients include Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, CIT Bank, Comerica Bank, East West Bank, MUFG Union Bank and SunTrust Bank, and financial transaction clients include Media Rights Capital, Le Grisbi Productions’ investing in the film Blood Moon and Takai Enterprises investing in the spy film 355.
The team is also noted as administering a 191-title library for Portfolio Funding and for counseling distributor XYZ Films on various transactions.
Mr. Spicer is quoted on the topic of the growth of video streaming overseas: “I would look to increased investment in overseas media and entertainment companies as everyone focuses their attention on international expansion.”
