Executive Order 2023-31: Oklahoma Governor Restricts Use of State Resources for DEI Activities

December 13, 2023

Summary

Oklahoma Governor Stitt issued Executive Order 2023-31 on December 13, 2023, stating that executive state agencies shall not use state resources to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), use diversity statements in applications, or mandate any person to disclose their pronouns. Agencies still may consider "programs for military, veterans, Pell Grant recipients, first generation college students, students from low-income families, students with unique abilities, and underserved student populations." The order cites the Supreme Court's decision in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College.
