HR 267: Louisiana Requests State Retirement Systems to Submit Written Reports on Proxy Voting

May 29, 2024

Summary

House Resolution 267 was adopted by the state House in May 2024 and requests state retirement systems to submit written reports on the results of its proxy voting. The resolution is motivated by increased "politically based shareholder proposals . . . involving environmental and social issues." The resolution further states that such environmental and social shareholder proposals "are often in direct conflict with the guidance and direction of the boards of directors of public companies" who act as fiduciaries for such companies under law, and that adoption of such proposals "will diminish the earning potential of public companies and create new legal and regulatory exposure."
