SB 219: California Extends Emissions Reporting Deadlines and Simplifies Corporate Climate Disclosure Requirements

Summary

SB 219 was passed in September 2024 and amends California's corporate greenhouse gas and climate-related financial risk disclosure laws, SB 253 and SB 261. The law amends SB 253 to extend the California Air and Resource Board's deadline to implement regulations by six months and alters the determination of the starting date for making scope 3 disclosures.

Additionally, the law amends SB 261 to alter certain state board requirements and remove the covered entities' required filing fee previously needed to file their climate-related financial risk disclosure reports.
