SB 2226: Mississippi Prohibits Investment in Companies that Boycott Israel

July 1, 2024

Summary

SB 2226 was enacted in April 2024 and became effective on July 1, 2024. It prohibits the state retirement system and state treasurer from investing funds with a company that boycotts Israel. The law requires the Executive Director of the Department of Finance and Administration to create a public list of companies boycotting Israel. The list must be posted on the Department of Finance and Administration website.

The law defines "boycotting Israel" as refusing to deal with or limiting commercial relations with Israel or entities doing business with Israel. This includes statements made by the company. However, the law exempts restrictive trade practices imposed by foreign countries against Israel.
