Abdiel is an associate in the firm’s financial restructuring practice. He represents both domestic and international clients in a variety of complex restructuring matters and advises creditors and other stakeholders in chapter 11 proceedings.
Prior to joining Akin as a full-time attorney, Abdiel was an Akin Pro Bono Scholar and spent his 1L summer interning for Catholic Charities providing legal assistance to unaccompanied minors. He plays an active role in Akin’s firmwide pro bono efforts by serving on the New York Office Pro Bono Council.
Abdiel earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law. During law school, Abdiel served as co-president of the Latinx Law Students Association, an executive editor of the NYU Annual Survey of American Law and a participant in the Civil Rights and Racial Justice Clinic and the Immigrant Rights Clinic. He was awarded a Vanderbilt Medal upon graduation for his dedication to community service. Abdiel received his B.S. in mathematics and B.A. in political science and religious studies from the University of Miami.
- Counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors, on a pro bono basis, in the chapter 11 case of Alex Jones, which was commenced following the entry of more than $1.5 billion in state court judgments against Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems.
