Biography
  • Global co-head of the firm’s projects & energy transition practice and ESG practice.
  • Represents clients on large, novel, complex and first-of-a-kind transactions across the energy sector in both established and emerging markets.
  • Advises on traditional energy generation and production and across the full spectrum of renewables and energy transition solutions.

Alex is global co-head of Akin’s projects & energy transition practice and the firm’s environmental, social & governance (ESG) practice. He works on large, novel, complex and first-of-a-kind mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity (PE), corporate, joint venture (JV), project finance, project development, financial restructuring, fund, special situations, preferred equity and private credit transactions with an energy focus.

His experience includes working on fixed and floating offshore wind, solar, onshore wind, hydro, tidal, biogas, biomass, energy from waste (EfW), oil & gas, carbon capture, utilization & storage (CCUS), energy networks and pipelines, nuclear, natural gas and coal transactions.

Alex has a particular focus on energy transition and “hard to abate” solutions, including CCUS, clean hydrogen, green ammonia, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), mandatory and voluntary carbon credit and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions trading and offsets, electric vehicles (EV) and EV charging, battery and energy storage, green corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) and energy as a service (EaaS) solutions.

Representative Work
  • Advising Southwest Airlines Co. on a 20-year offtake agreement with USA BioEnergy LLC for up to 680 million gallons of neat SAF.
  • Advising Kennedy Lewis Investment Management (KLIM) and KKR on a multiyear, multijurisdiction auto asset financing arrangement with Optio Investment Partners supporting the roll-out of electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • Advising a global energy company on a long-term offtake agreement to acquire voluntary carbon credits generated in Latin America.
  • Advising a Japanese trading house on the long-term purchase and re-sale of SAF.
  • Advising an ad hoc group of noteholders on the special administration of a U.K. regulated utility.
  • Advising an international private equity fund and its portfolio company on the acquisition of a portfolio of upstream oil & gas interests in Colombia.
  • Advising a global leading investment firm on its preferred equity investment in the purchaser of a large Dutch energy business.
  • Advising a leading Asian national energy company on its liquefied natural gas (LNG) trading contracts.
  • Advising a global leading investment firm on its proposed purchase of a Brazilian floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) and oilfield services business.
  • Advising the U.K. Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on the special administration of Bulb Energy.
  • Advising Ofgem, the energy regulator for Great Britain, on the design and delivery of the new regulated asset value (RAV) regulatory and government support regime for major CCUS projects.
