Brett focuses his practice on international trade matters, including export controls and economic sanctions across a variety of industries. He has experience assisting clients with internal audits and investigations related to export controls and economic sanctions laws and regulations, as well as licensing and other advisory work.
Brett’s work involves matters related to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the economic sanctions programs administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
Prior to joining Akin, Brett worked at another international law firm in Washington, D.C. Brett obtained his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he was the managing editor for the North Carolina Journal of International Law. He was also a competing member of the Asian American Law Student Association Holderness Moot Court Team, and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Committee.
