Biography

David is a partner in the London corporate practice and a member of the firm’s technology transactions group. His practice has a focus on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and strategic investment transactions ranging from venture and growth through to private equity.

David specializes in transactions for technology companies from early stage through to initial public offering (IPO)/exit. He has over 20 years of experience acting for international clients on their strategic investment, roll up plans and joint venture activity across Europe. David has a deep expertise regarding structuring and executing pan-European cross-border transactions for domestic and overseas clients.

Prior to joining Akin, David held roles as head of the private equity group and leadership of the corporate telecoms, media and technology group at another London headquartered international law firm.

  • Advising the management team of Adenza software provider to the financial services sector on its $10 billion sale to Nasdaq.
  • Advising the management team of software provider Calypso Technology Inc. on the sale of Calypso to private equity firm Thoma Bravo.
  • Advising AdvancedAdvT Ltd on its acquisition of multiple software businesses from Capita and subsequent move from the LSE to AIM.
  • Advising global insights technology provider Toluna Holdings on its acquisition of US business GutCheck and subsequent acquisition of market research and insights leader MetrixLab.
  • Advising Cloud Imperium Games, creator of the upcoming multiplayer space game "Star Citizen," on its $46 million venture round funding.
  • Advising Thras.io on its acquisition of several ecommerce businesses trading on Amazon.
  • Advising on the sale of strategic investments into a number of high-end restaurant groups including Zuma, Coya and LPM.
  • Advising the shareholders of SwiftKey, including founders Jon Reynolds and Ben Medlock and various investors including Accel Partners, Index Ventures and Octopus Investments, on its acquisition by Microsoft.
  • Advising Adestra on its $56million sale to Upland Software, a provider of cloud-based enterprise work management software.
  • Advising Advanced Computer Software Group plc, provider of information technology (IT) services to health care companies and National Health Service (NHS) walk-in centres, on its £725 million takeover by US private equity firm Vista Partners.
