Emily is an English-qualified associate in Akin’s disputes and international arbitration practice. She has broad experience in commercial litigation and international arbitration within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region across the banking, energy, oil & gas and construction & infrastructure sectors.
Having worked in London and Dubai, Emily also has experience in financial services regulation, white-collar crime investigations and banking litigation proceedings in England and Wales.
At university, Emily graduated with first-class honors in English Literature and later a distinction in Law.
- Represented one of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) largest real estate developers in an arbitration against its joint venture partner, following failures in a multibillion-dollar contract for the creation of a large tourism hub.
- Advised an international company on its exit strategies from Yemen and Iran to ensure compliance with international sanctions regimes and UAE anti-money laundering (AML)/counter terrorism financing (CTF) laws.
- Represented a contractor in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Court proceedings regarding the cancellation of bonds and recovery of debts relating to an unsuccessful real estate project in Meydan.
- Represented a contractor in Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) arbitration proceedings concerning claims commenced by a subcontractor arising out of the construction of a high-profile project in Dubai.
- Represented the respondents in a London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) arbitration commenced by a contractor who claimed wrongful termination of a multimillion-pound contract involving an offshore pipeline.
