Griffin Boyle is an associate in the international trade practice. He advises clients on a wide range of international trade matters related to U.S. economic sanctions and export controls. He also advises clients on mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transaction due diligence for both buyers and sellers, as well as transactions involving Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
While in law school, Griffin worked at Akin as a law clerk, advising on sanctions and export controls and developing innovative legal technology solutions for regulatory analysis. Prior to law school, as an Akin international policy specialist, he provided research and analysis to support strategies of government, corporate and individual clients on a range of trade-related issues. Additionally, he developed strategies to target and approach governments and global companies operating in the aerospace, defense, electronics and health sectors. As an Akin international trade paralegal, he managed filing voluntary disclosures for major defense contractors related to export controls compliance.
- Advised multinational companies in a variety of sectors—including shipping, consulting, oil and gas, apparel, financial services, investment funds, aerospace and defense, and logistics—on compliance with economic sanctions laws, as administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the U.S. Department of State, and export control laws under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
- Drafted sanctions, export controls and other trade-related terms in connection with mergers, acquisition, bond offerings and other corporate transactions
- Conducted internal investigations for multinational companies and drafting voluntary disclosures related to compliance with U.S. sanctions, export controls and customs laws.
- Drafted license applications to OFAC on behalf of clients to enable business operations affected by U.S. sanctions.
- Conducted due diligence and risk assessments related to sanctions, export controls and anticorruption compliance.
