Karina practices within the firm’s intellectual property practice, where she focuses on patent litigation. She routinely represents and advises clients in high-stakes matters involving a range of technologies, including medical devices, small molecule pharmaceuticals and biologics. She also works closely with the lobbying & public policy group on matters related to patent legislation.
In addition, Karina has a robust pro bono practice advising on an array of matters. Her experience includes child advocacy in family court litigation and a highly complex immigration asylum matter.
Karina received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law, M.A. in bioethics & science policy from Duke University Graduate School and B.A. in biology from Williams College. Karina was a member of Akin’s 2018 summer associate class. Karina rejoined Akin in 2021 after serving as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.
- Represented a large multinational pharmaceutical company in a patent infringement case involving a revolutionary immuno-oncology drug. Achieved a very favorable monetary settlement for our client.
- Represented a medical device manufacturer accused of patent infringement by a potential acquisition target. Achieved settlement for the client.
- Advised pharmaceutical companies on litigation strategy in anticipation of competition from infringers and/or biosimilars.
- Advised pharmaceutical companies on strategy related to drug product launches and acquisitions.
